Another week passes by so fast I barely have time to do anything, and work just keeps piling up, and on top of that, we’re having so friggin’ hot days now in Tokyo it just feels like melting, and it’s just beginning of June!! where’s the rainy season!?!?! Straight to summer, please no!
Shinjuku Golden Gai 新宿ゴールデン街 is located in the heart of Kabukicho, Shinjuku’s red light district. This maze of alleys has more than 200 small bars and nothing more, just bars and some Ramen booths, basically a nightlife place. Most of this bars have a bohemian charm, just seats for 5 guests, usually commoners from the place, that they go to drink and spend their time exchanging their ideas and artist vision. The night I was there invited to one of these bars the conversations went from politics to art, to cinema, to dreams, to philosophy, back to politics, and so on…

A bit of story: Golden Gai first was a prostitution area, on the 1950’s decade, then it became ilegal and turned into what it is now, a drinking area. Some of those bars were originally more nasty than they’re now, believe it!
