Everytime I visit Kansai area is compulsory for me to eat the major dishes in the area, and in Osaka, my favourites are Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki. Specially, when I visit Dotonbori, I can’t resist to at least order Takoyaki. Take a look at the article to know a bit more about this two speciallities from Japan. Do you have any favourite version or some detail I haven’t mentioned? Don’t be afraid to leave a comment in the section below.
Okonomiyaki: This japanese style pancake/omelette fascinates me, as basically it means “whatever you like grilled” dish, but what I most heard is that okonomiyaki is the “japanese pizza”. Most common ingredients are cabbage, onion, and pork meat, but there are as many variations as you can imagine. the toppings are usually the same; Okonomiyaki sauce, seaweed flakes, katsuobushi and mayonnaise. There are some restaurants that you can prepare your own okonomiyaki, but without a japanese friend or someone that can teach you, you probably gonna end being helped by the restaurant staff.
Takoyaki: Octopus balls, delicious and hot as hell, this is one of my favourite “appetizers” in Japan. Cooked batter in a special takoyaki pan, and filled with octopus, onion or more. Also topped with katsuobushi and mayonnaise like okonomiyaki. Many times we did Takoyaki party at our house in Tokyo, you can buy all the ingredients and also the takoyaki pan machine to prepare them.
